Stepping Into Truth: Conversations on Race, Gender, and Social Justice
Talking How to Start a Revolution and more with Lauren Duca
Season 2 Episode 11
Lauren Duca
In this episode Lauren Duca, author of How to Start a Revolution: Young People and the Future of American Politics and I talk about what changed after the 2016 election. We talk about how many young people experienced a political awakening and the shift that has engendered. You’ve probably heard the term military industrial complex. But have you heard about the political-industrial complex? We all hear that young people are the future, well of course they are. Lauren and I talk about the future that young people are trying to create and how we all, regardless of age, can be participants in democracy. The way the founding fathers intended. Best of all, Lauren gives us suggestions as to how we can make a difference without quitting our day jobs.
Lauren Duca is a freelance journalist and author of the new book "How to Start a Revolution: Young People and the Future of American Politics”.
Lauren’s Action Items:
1. Vote! Inform yourself on the issues and then vote.
2. Question authority and ourselves. Question mainstream media, our elected officials, and also ourselves. Where did we get that piece of information? Are we sure that’s correct? Don’t just believe everything we hear, do a bit of research so that you understand the bias (we all have them) of the source of the info.
3. Donate to a cause you believe in. Even if it’s just the $ from that one coffee you didn’t have this week your financial contribution matters. That one coffee a week could be $260, or more, a year.
4. If you are just getting started, don’t be ashamed. What matters is that you are in the game now.
