Here's This Week’s Activist Micro Action
Hi,
Here we are in the second week of 2024. I am beginning to make peace with the pace of time, "beginning" being the operative word. That said, as we prepare for what is shaping up to be quite the year, let's continue with getting ourselves set up so that we can do our activist work with as much consistency (and as little friction) as possible.
Let me say something about "friction" for a moment. It's that whole inertia thing. The longer we go without doing something the harder it is to get back to it. That's why I make these actions small and easy so that "friction" doesn't get in the way. If we don't have to expend a lot of energy to move something forward we are far more likely to do so, hence...micro.
This week I ask that you create a folder on your device where you can store relevant information so that, when you need it, you know precisely where to go to find it. And because creating a folder without anything in it feels sad let's start populating it by putting in contact information for your elected officials. If you're in the U.S. you can find your reps here House of Representatives & Senators. If you're outside the U.S. and live in a democracy you can do a search for your elected representatives and put that info in your folder.
If you don't live somewhere where you vote on your leaders, or the votes are a sham, start by putting in the name of one person (or more) you know with whom you can collaborate on projects to make things better in your community.
We want to have resources, people to reach out to, to collaborate with, to hold us accountable and vice versa, all of it. This folder will hold that information and more.
The easier we make it to do our activist work the more likely we are to keep doing it. And believe me, what you do matters. You may never see the impact but that doesn't mean your work didn't have one. Think of all the people who positively impacted your life who never knew of their contribution to you. You are that person for someone else. You are that person in service of a larger cause.
Thank you for all that you do.
